About us

The Vancouver Waldorf School (VWS) parent council was founded in 2004 and with various names and configurations across the years is now named the Parent Committee (PAC). The PAC works collaboratively with parents, faculty and administration in many areas of school life, offers a place of initiative and social renewal and supports the impulse of Community & Resource Development (CaRD).

Vision

A valued parent body actively engaged in the VWS community for their own fulfillment as well as for the betterment of Waldorf education and the VWS student’s experience.

Mission

The VWS Parent Committee work within the context of this framework to:

  • Be a portal for parent participation in school life and day-to-day operations, including but not limited to, consultation with the community on development ideas; supporting adult learning; and supporting parents in navigating school procedures.

  • Put in action parents’ strengths and interests in order to support the needs of the school community, body of teachers and administration; community outreach; and other creative activities designed to enrich the life of the school community and student experience.

  • Assess and decide priorities for Community Fund (in alignment with VWS Fundraising Policy) and Gaming Grant expenditures (in alignment with Grant rules), based on Parent Committee-generated ideas as well as incoming funding requests from faculty, staff, students, parents etc.

  • Support class representatives to ensure they are equipped to adequately support their class teacher.

  • Welcome new families to the school, helping them navigate through Waldorf education, values and ways of being as a school.

  • Create a bridge of communication between the school and parent body.

The VWS Parent Committee adopts as its fundamental values a commitment to promote and work in synergy with the underlying principles of Waldorf education and in line with the VWS values.
